Burned a DVD in iDVD and tried it on the Mac – Video looks fine, but no audio. Set up a 16:9 project in iMovie and again, video and audio were fine. Eight hours later, one-pass encoding produced a 715MB MP4 which played fine in QuickTime and VLC. HB defaulted to Average Bitrate setting, which I failed to note.
I’m fairly new to the Mac platform and Handbrake, by the way, and more familiar with VirtualDub on the PC, where I’ve used the Xvid codec to create compressed MP4 video. System is a Power PC G5 Power Mac with 6.5GB of memory. Not much luck so far, and I’m hoping for some assistance. My goal is to burn a DVD retaining as much quality as possible. I’ve been working in Handbrake with a 30-minute (3.7GB on disk, 1920x1080 resolution) AVCHD (MTS) video shot on a friend’s Panasonic cam.
